Brother To Brother Leadership Forum Presents “All Guns Down – Jobs Not Jails” Campaign in Mckeesport, PA

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 2/25/08 — The Brother to Brother Leadership Forum for Black Men is calling for an end to all forms of violence (youth, economic, institutional, etc.) that disproportionately impact the Black community on March 14-15. The weekend’s activities will take place in Mckeesport, PA and will include events for the entire family such as an all-night basketball tournament & a community speak-out regarding youth employment, education & violence. For that weekend, we are inviting our Black youth to put “All Guns Down” and join us in promoting positive communities within Mckeesport and surrounding Mon Valley areas.

We will also be promoting our “Jobs not Jails” campaign which encourages service providers & businesses to attend our events to recruit Black youth for jobs. The numbers of Black youth currently incarcerated in Western Pennsylvania are severely disproportionate. One solution to this dire situation is to create opportunities for gainful employment for youth versus the illicit activities that ensnare many young people. We can all benefit from teaching Black youth marketable skills that they can use in a competitive workplace. Jobs give our youth a reason to stay off of the streets and can lower violent criminal activity in Allegheny County.

The Brother to Brother Leadership Forum is a community leadership forum created by and run by Black men from Pittsburgh and surrounding areas. We are Black men of varying faiths, professions, and backgrounds who participate in weekly roundtable discussions to develop action plans that address important issues impacting our communities. Brother to Brother organizes and manages community activities for urban youth, generates mentoring programs, and promotes positive communities and economic development in distressed areas. We are doctors, lawyers, engineers, financial planners, politicians, corporate trainers, journalists, cooks, construction workers, and laborers sharing a common vision and purpose. We encourage all who share this common vision of educating and nurturing Black youth to participate in our roundtable discussions.

For additional information, Contact: T. Rashad Byrdsong at 412-371-3689 or email: trbyrdsong@ceapittsburgh.org. or brother2brother@yahoo.com You can also visit the CEA website: www.ceapittsburgh.org

Brother to Brother is to provide a community forum for building fellowship & networking among Black Men and Black Youth in ways that will improve the lives of the next generation while strengthening our families & communities.  By doing with, we wish to cultivate a new harvest of young Black leadership & develop necessary prescriptions to create safeguards for Black Youth, Families, & Communities.

THE COLOR PURPLE in PITTSBURGH

I just got wind that THE COLOR PURPLE will be playing at the Benedum Center this summer June 3-15, (they are taking the play on tour, so it's the Broadway cast). For anyone who has not had a chance to see it on Broadway, It is an AMAZING performance. The website is listed below. I heard that the tickets are around $65 and on Broadway I know they were at least $100 - what a treat!  I 'm thinking that these tickets will sell out as soon as they go on sale. I guess you just have to either call or keep checking the website for ticket sale dates.  Don't sleep though, you'll miss it!
